PSCM\u00a0 HISTORY<\/h3><\/div>

<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div>

In an organizational meeting at the Philippine Plaza Hotel on November 28, 1992, obstetrician-gynecologists, cardiologists, orthopedic surgeons and psychiatrists, radiologists, nutritionists, and rheumatologists formally organized the Philippine Society of Climacteric Medicine (PSCM). The first elected officers and members of the board were:<\/p>\n

\nDr. Lilia P. Luna, Secretary
\nDr. Amelita D. Roa, Treasurer
\nDr. Guillerma Sahagun, Internal Auditor
\nDr. Jercyl Leilani Demetrio, Public Relations Officer; and
\nDr. Leonardo Almeda, Dr. Florante P. Gonzaga,
\nDr. Rosalinda Arceo, Dr. Dante Morales and
\nDr. Copernico Villaruel, board members.<\/p>\n

Focusing on its objectives, the society aims to promote the study of all aspects of the climacteric in both men and women; to organize, prepare, hold and participate in meetings and congresses on subjects related to its objectives; to enhance the interchange of research plans and experiences among the individual members of society; and disseminate relevant information to both physicians and laymen alike.<\/p>\n

PSCM is affiliated with the International Menopause Society (IMS), some of the PSCM members are also members of the Asia-Pacific Menopause Federation Society. There has been representation of the society in the establishment of guidelines on women’s healthcare, especially in the menopause. The PSCM ensures the dissemination of information regarding the care of menopausal women through lectures, lay fora and out-of-town programs; and it helps in the establishment of menopause clinics in the different regions of the country.<\/p>\n

PSCM became incorporated on February 12, 1993.\u00a0 Its annual activities are:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Midyear Convention in the month of May<\/li>\n
  • Annual Convention in the month of September<\/li>\n
  • Menopause month every October of the year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Currently, there are 324 active members of the society, 75 of whom are founding members.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

    We are the lead organization globally recognized as the authority in providing wholistic health care to climacteric women.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

    PSCM Mission<\/h3><\/div>

    We are a society of competent, committed and compassionate health professionals dedicated to enhancing the well-being and quality of life of Filipino women by advancing the art and science of climacteric medicine through promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative service and enhancing the professional growth of the society\u2019s members through training and research, advocacy programs and upholding the highest ethical standard of practice.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

    General Objectives<\/h3><\/div>

    To promote the art and science of climacteric medicine.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    Specific Objectives<\/h3><\/div>

    • To advance the current standard of practice in the management of climacteric women.<\/li>\n
    • To strengthen ethical standards of practice in the management of climacteric women.<\/li>\n
    • To increase public awareness on climacteric medicine \/ menopause.<\/li>\n
    • To promote research in climacteric medicine.<\/li>\n
    • To encourage members to undertake community service in the field of climacteric medicine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
